Rep. Gallego is very concerned about President Fox’s disappointment
By Emilio D. Santos
I am writing
in reference to the Associate Press article written by Jim Vertuno about
Mexico’s President Vicente Fox's decision to cancel his trip to Texas. Fox
canceled the trip to protest the execution of Javier Suarez Medina, a Mexican
drug-trafficker who confessed and was convicted in 1989 of the murder of a
Dallas Police undercover narcotics officer.

Government
Needs to Lose Weight
by Sheldon Richman
How
ironic that just as an already-bloated government is taking on major new
powers, it is exhorting us to lose weight. But that's exactly what Surgeon
General David Satcher is calling for. In his recently released "Call To
Action To Prevent and Decrease Overweight and Obesity," Satcher writes,
"Our ultimate goal is to set priorities and establish strategies
and actions to reduce overweight and obesity."

. .Conditions
for the population in the Rio Grande Valley are worse under one party monopoly.
.. But to attract new business to the Rio Grande Valley requires more than
campaign rhetoric. Last October the Texas Association of Business and Chambers
of Commerce, (TABCC) put out a legislative scorecard that portrayed all border
lawmakers as anti-business. The TABCC ranked lawmakers from 0 to 100. The
average score was 66 in the House and 62 in the Senate. All of the Valley state
representatives scored below 43. ( To Attract

By
Emilio D. Santos
I was appalled when Governor Rick Perry vetoed the
H.B. 396, relating to the requirement that an applicant for a driver's
license shall provide a Social Security number and certain identification
information to the Department of Public Safety.
The veto is a terrible mistake. It will affect not only immigrants but
also all our state public safety ( VMME0619016G

Immigrants: Tear Down Our Wall
by Jacob
G. Hornberger, June 2001
On the heels of his recent regret for the drug-war deaths in Peru of a missionary and her baby, President Bush has now expressed condolences for the deaths of 14 Mexican citizens on the Arizona desert. The men died of thirst and exposure after crossing into the United States from Mexico.
Why
they served?
By
Emilio D. Santos
Memorial Day is set aside in America to honor those who have served in
our armed forces. But what if we spent this Memorial Day not just honoring those
who served, but also recalling why they served? ( Memorial Day
